Over the weekend, Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo made history by winning a gold medal in the men’s floor exercise final. This amazing achievement happened on August 3, and Yulo scored a fantastic 15.000 after nailing his dismount with a tricky three-and-a-half twist.

As he stood on the podium, Yulo couldn’t contain his excitement. He raised both fists in celebration and showed gratitude to the judges and fans, placing his hands over his heart in a heartfelt gesture.

Feeling overwhelmed with joy, he shared his thoughts, saying, “I’m so grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always. He gave me the strength to get through this kind of performance and perform this well.”

The competition was tough, with Tokyo 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat from Israel taking home the silver medal with a score of 14.966. Great Britain‘s Dominic Moore followed closely, winning bronze with a 14.933 score.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the Philippines, as it’s the country’s first medal in gymnastics and only their second Olympic gold medal ever. The first one was earned by Hidilyn Diaz, who won gold in the Women’s 55 kg weightlifting event during the Tokyo Olympics.

Yulo, who is 24 years old, has faced some challenges in recent years, especially at the last Olympics in Tokyo. He has struggled with consistency, but this triumph is a major boost for him.

He recalled his journey, saying, “I’m grateful for the people who really supported me. I could not do it without them.” The road to success hasn’t been easy, and for every high point, like his recent gold at the 2019 Worlds, there have been low points, including a tough finish at last year’s World Championships.
