Yuvraj Singh Critiques Abhishek Sharma After Run Out in T20I
Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh made headlines with his critical comment on Abhishek Sharma following the opening T20I against Bangladesh. Despite India‘s victory over Bangladesh, Sharma faced criticism due to his run-out, raising eyebrows within the cricket community.
During the first T20I held in Gwalior, India set out to chase a modest target of 128 runs, with Abhishek Sharma opening the batting alongside his partner Sanju Samson. The duo seemed to have a strong start until a misunderstanding occurred, resulting in Sharma’s dismissal for 16 runs off 7 balls. The incident happened when Samson played a defensive shot from Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed towards mid-wicket. Miscommunication led to Sharma being caught short of his crease while seeking a run, with Towhid Hridoy making a direct hit.
Following the match, Abhishek Sharma posted on Instagram, expressing his determination by stating, “Every run, every ball – it’s all for the team.” However, his mentor, the renowned Yuvraj Singh, responded candidly, “Only if we apply our brains properly,” displaying his dissatisfaction with the dismissal.
In recent matches, Abhishek Sharma had accomplished notable performances, including his maiden T20I century, which had impressed selectors and pundits alike. However, this latest incident sparked debate over his decision-making on the field.
Yuvraj Singh and Abhishek Sharma share a close rapport, reflecting a mentor-protégé relationship beyond cricket. “I am playing at this level because of him,” Sharma acknowledged in a BCCI.tv video, crediting Singh’s influence on both his professional and personal life.
In the match, India’s bowlers excelled, with Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy each taking three wickets to restrict Bangladesh to just 127 runs in 19.5 overs. Suryakumar Yadav, who captained India for this match, opted to field first after assessing the pitch conditions favorable at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium.
The Indian team featured two new debutants, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, reflecting ongoing strategies to test and incorporate fresh talents. India played against a Bangladesh side led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, including experienced players like Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman.
