Zach LaVine’s Stellar Season Sparks Trade Speculation Amid Bulls’ Struggles
Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine is turning heads with a standout season, reigniting trade speculation as the NBA deadline approaches. Averaging 23.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on impressive 51/45/82 shooting splits, LaVine has become a potential game-changer for contending teams. Despite the Bulls’ attempts to trade him last summer, his recent performances have made him a hot commodity.
LaVine, the franchise’s all-time leader in made three-pointers, delivered one of his best games of the season on Monday night, scoring 35 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out eight assists in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. Following the game, he posted on Instagram, where fans flooded the comments with praise and pleas for him to stay in Chicago. “You’re so good, Zach. Stay in Chicago,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Chicago should be embarrassed by putting you on the trading block every year.”
In the third season of his five-year, $215 million contract, LaVine’s hefty salary makes him a challenging acquisition under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement. However, his talent remains undeniable, and teams like the Denver Nuggets have reportedly explored trade scenarios. Earlier this season, the Nuggets discussed swapping Michael Porter Jr. for LaVine, though talks are currently “dormant,” according to ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst.
Denver, sitting at 20-14 and fourth in the Western Conference, is considering adjustments to its championship core, which includes Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon. Meanwhile, the Bulls, at 17-19 and 10th in the East, are fighting for a playoff spot. Despite their struggles, LaVine has been a bright spot, averaging 33.3 points per game during their recent four-game winning streak.
LaVine’s future remains uncertain, with a $48.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season. For now, both the Bulls and Nuggets appear content to hold onto their star players as they continue to excel. With the trade deadline looming on February 6, the situation could change, but for now, LaVine remains a cornerstone of the Bulls’ lineup.
