Zelle Experiences Outage Affecting Payments Across Multiple Banks

New York, NY – Zelle is currently experiencing an outage that is disrupting payment services for customers at several banks. The issues began on Friday morning, prompting reports from users on DownDetector, a site that tracks service outages.
A spokesperson for Zelle confirmed the outage, stating, “We are aware that certain Zelle users at some financial institutions are not able to use Zelle at this time. We are working diligently with our partners to resolve this matter as soon as we can. Zelle users may see transactions marked as ‘payment pending’ in the meantime.”
The spokesperson indicated that the problem is connected to Fiserv, a payments giant that provides services to some banks. Fiserv has not responded to requests for comments regarding the situation.
Reports of outages peaked late Friday morning but started to decline afterward. Zelle did not specify which banks are directly affected, but users from Truist and Navy Federal Credit Union reported difficulties.
One affected Truist customer shared their frustration on DownDetector, stating, “I feel like my money is just floating and no one will help with anything or take any accountability!”
Representatives from various banks have referred inquiries to Zelle. A spokesperson for Bank of America, Matthew Card, confirmed that customers are facing delays in sending and receiving payments. He stated, “This is a vendor-related issue affecting multiple banks. We’re working with the vendor to restore service as quickly as possible.”
Zelle, owned by Early Warning Services (EWS), facilitates billions of dollars in transactions daily, allowing users to transfer money quickly via email or mobile phone. It is widely integrated into major U.S. banks’ mobile apps, making it a popular choice for peer-to-peer payments.
