In a historic first for the UFC, two Chinese fighters went head-to-head for the title, with Zhang Weili defending her championship against Yan Xiaonan in an epic battle.

Zhang showcased her dominance early in the fight, launching a series of brutal attacks on Xiaonan, nearly securing finishes in the initial rounds.

The 34-year-old Zhang, known for her prowess in the strawweight division, utilized a mix of striking and wrestling skills to keep Xiaonan on her toes throughout the bout.

Aware of Xiaonan’s resilience and toughness, Zhang commended her opponent post-fight, expressing respect and a desire for friendship beyond the octagon.

Notwithstanding some intense moments, including three knockdowns by Xiaonan, Zhang maintained her composure and relied on her wrestling acumen to secure a unanimous decision victory.

Having fallen short only to Rose Namajunas, Zhang remains a force in the strawweight division, boasting an impressive record since her UFC debut in 2018.
