Zhu Lin Upsets Mirra Andreeva at Ningbo Open 2025

Ningbo, China – Chinese wild card Zhu Lin pulled off an impressive upset on home soil, defeating top seed Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16 at the Ningbo Open on October 15, 2025. The match lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes and showcased Zhu’s determination and skill.
This victory marks Zhu’s second consecutive comeback win over a higher-ranked opponent, following her opening-round triumph over Emma Raducanu. The loss is significant for Andreeva, last year’s finalist at Ningbo, as it threatens her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals in Riyadh.
Zhu’s journey has not been easy. After battling injuries that sidelined her for six months, her ranking had slipped dangerously close to the top 500 before her recent resurgence. Returning to competitive play at the Australian Open proved challenging, but she began to find her form during the Asian swing, reaching the round of 16 in Montreal.
In her match against Andreeva, Zhu capitalized on her opponent’s 67 unforced errors, including 47 in the final two sets. Zhu successfully converted 6 of her 15 break points and won 54% of total points, showing remarkable control under pressure.
Now, ranked No. 219, Zhu is projected to climb to No. 170 in the live WTA standings. This win also evens her rivalry with Andreeva, avenging her recent loss in Beijing. Zhu will next face seventh seed Diana Shnaider, who leads their head-to-head 2-0, including a victory in last year’s Thailand Open final.
