Zion Williamson Pelicans Game Injury Return

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has been ruled out for Wednesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers as he continues his recovery from a left hamstring strain. Williamson recently returned to the court after a 27-game absence, scoring 22 points in just under 28 minutes during a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Following the game, Williamson expressed optimism about his condition but remained uncertain about playing on back-to-back nights so soon after his return. “I definitely feel like my legs are already under me,” Williamson said Tuesday night. Pelicans coach Willie Green praised Williamson’s performance, stating, “He looked as good as I’ve seen him after being out for as long as he’s been.”

Williamson showcased his athleticism with several highlight-reel dunks in his return, including a 360-degree spin and one-handed slam during a breakaway. Despite his impressive display, the Pelicans have struggled this season, going 2-5 in the seven games Williamson has played and 5-25 without him.

In addition to Williamson’s absence, forward Brandon Ingram was also ruled out for a second consecutive game due to a left ankle sprain. The Pelicans will face the Trail Blazers at home before traveling to Philadelphia for a Friday night matchup against the 76ers.

Williamson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, missing more games than he has played since entering the league. His return has been a bright spot for the Pelicans, but the team remains cautious about his workload as they aim to keep him healthy for the remainder of the season.
