Zverev Faces Cobolli as Griekspoor Meets Quinn in French Open Third Round

PARIS, France — Alexander Zverev, the 2024 French Open runner-up, is set to take on Italian Flavio Cobolli in the third round of the prestigious tournament on Saturday. Zverev, currently ranked third in the world, is aiming to secure a spot in the quarterfinals after a rocky season. He aims to rebound from a mixed year while Cobolli seeks to maintain momentum from his recent successes.
Cobolli, ranked 26th and fresh off a seven-match winning streak, has claimed two clay-court titles this spring, showcasing his determination and resilience. He emerged victorious against Marin Cilic in straight sets and narrowly defeated Matteo Arnaldi in four sets during the tournament.
Zverev’s path has been less stable. The German had a strong start to his season with a runner-up finish in Australia but struggled afterward, despite winning an ATP 500 title in Munich. In Paris, Zverev secured his place in the third round with straight-set wins over Learner Tien and Jesper de Jong.
While Cobolli’s remarkable comeback story has drawn attention, Zverev’s consistent performance in long matches may prove advantageous. Both players could face a challenging encounter, potentially extending to five sets, given Zverev’s history in such matches at Grand Slams.
In another key matchup, Tallon Griekspoor will face Ethan Quinn. Griekspoor, ranked 35th, has demonstrated solid form, having won 20 matches this year and navigating past Gabriel Diallo in four sets to reach this stage.
Quinn, 21, will enter the match after an impressive five-set victory over Alexander Shevchenko, marking his first completed win in a Grand Slam draw. Regardless of the outcome of the match, Quinn is projected to enter the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time.
Both matches promise to be thrilling clashes on the clay courts of Roland Garros, with Zverev and Griekspoor as the favorites in their respective matches.
