Cavaliers Unveil Largest NBA Arena Lighting Rig Ahead of Playoff Opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Cavaliers have announced the installation of the largest lighting rig in an NBA arena, just in time for the playoffs. The new system was set up at Rocket Arena during a four-day break before the team’s postseason opener against the Miami Heat on April 30, 2025.
Designed and installed by Crossfade Design, the lighting system features 310 FX lights and 238 robotically movable lights. The Cavaliers have kept the installation costs confidential but are excited about the potential of the new technology. Chris Kaiser, the team’s Chief Marketing Officer, described the lighting as a crucial element that enhances the entire game experience. “Once you get in the bowl, this will impact every aspect,” said Kaiser.
The unique triangular structure of the lighting rig was inspired by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame building, allowing the Cavaliers to project images and messages during games. The lighting system combines with existing effects, including lasers and pyrotechnics, providing new avenues for in-game presentations. “It just sets the entire mood of the building,” Kaiser added.
During an early test run against the Heat, the system proved its worth as fake snow machines activated when the Cavaliers scored four consecutive 3-pointers, prompting a timeout from the opposing team. “There is still a lot of opportunity and growth for what we can do with it,” Kaiser noted.
The new lighting rig marks an important technological advancement for the Cavaliers, who aim to enhance the entertainment experience for fans as they compete in the NBA postseason.
