Senator Calls for Apology from Angel Reese After WNBA Investigation

Indianapolis, Indiana — U.S. Senator Jim Banks is demanding an apology from WNBA star Angel Reese following an investigation into alleged racist comments directed toward her by fans during a game on May 17, 2025. The incident occurred during a matchup between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever in Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The WNBA announced on May 27 that their investigation found no evidence to substantiate the claims of racist behavior. “Based on information gathered to date, including from relevant fans, team and arena staff, as well as audio and video reviews of the game, we have not substantiated it,” the league stated.
Senator Banks responded by posting on social media, “Angel Reese owes Indiana fans an apology.” However, it’s unclear who initially reported the allegation, and Reese has not publicly stated that she experienced anything out of line during the game.
Earlier, both Reese and her opponent, Fever guard Caitlin Clark, expressed their support for the investigation, stressing that there is “no place” for such behavior in the league. Reese stated, “Every player in this league deserves to be treated with respect,” reinforcing the league’s commitment to a safe environment.
The investigation followed the WNBA’s launch of a “No Space for Hate” campaign aimed at promoting inclusivity and respect among fans and players. Angel Reese, previously harassed online after the 2023 NCAA championship game, garnered attention again as the investigation concluded.
Despite the controversy, Reese has continued to make headlines for her achievements on the court, recently celebrating becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to record 500 points and rebounds.
