LOS ANGELES, CA — Mariah Carey is set to enter a new era in her music career. After nearly seven years without a proper album, the pop superstar teased her fans on social media about a new LP in the works, hinting that the first taste of it may be coming soon.

On Monday, June 2, Carey shared a video of herself looking glamorous while sitting in a car, listening to a new single with a groovy club beat playing on the radio. The clip reveals the screen displaying an untitled track labeled “T:D_MC16.mp3.” “To show my appreciation for your support, thank you DJs,” Carey’s smoky voice said as the music played.

The video also featured a close-up of the car’s license plate, which displayed “MC16.” The caption read, “What’s your type?” which is the same message that closes the video.

The license plate suggests that the Songbird Supreme is preparing to release her 16th studio album, following 2018’s “Caution.” Additionally, it appears that the first single could be launching on Friday, June 6, based on another video Carey posted a day later. In this second clip, she once again sits in a car while music plays, and the video ends with the date “June 6.”

Billboard has reached out to Carey’s representatives for comment. The singer, known for her hit “Obsessed,” has remained active with her yearly “All I Want for Christmas” performances, but fans have expressed growing impatience for new material. Carey’s last album, “Caution,” reached No. 5 on the Billboard charts, making it one of 18 top 10 entries in her career.

This recent excitement comes just days after Carey celebrated the 20th anniversary of her iconic album, “The Emancipation of Mimi,” which debuted at No. 1 in 2005. To commemorate the milestone, she released a special multi-disc edition of the project, featuring remixes, bonus tracks, and a cappella versions compiled together for the first time.
