Kiki Iriafen Wnba Rookie Of The Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The WNBA announced today that Washington Mystics forward Kiki Iriafen has been named the Kia WNBA Rookie of the Month for games played in May. This historic honor marks the first time a player from the Mystics has received this award.

In her debut month, Iriafen averaged 13.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 47.4% from the field. She stood out as both third in rookie scoring and first in rebounds per game among her peers. Additionally, her average of 10.1 rebounds per game ranked fourth in the entire league, while her 4.3 second-chance points per game held the second spot in the WNBA.

Iriafen also achieved a remarkable milestone by averaging at least 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds on 47.0% shooting or better in a single month, a feat not accomplished by a Mystics player since Crystal Langhorne in July 2010. Only four rookies have ever reached these statistics, with the last being Tina Charles in 2010.

From May 18 to May 25, she recorded four consecutive double-doubles, becoming the first rookie in Mystics history to do so. This achievement placed her alongside Natalie Williams of the Utah Starzz as just the second rookie in WNBA history to record four double-doubles within the first five career games.

Iriafen scored in double digits in all seven of the Mystics’ games throughout May, joining a select group of only six players in WNBA history to average at least 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in their first seven games. This impressive list includes notable players like Tina Charles and Candace Parker.

Selected fourth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, the California native is currently averaging 14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 51.7% in 28.3 minutes per game. Her strong start has contributed significantly to the Washington Mystics’ season, showcasing her potential and impact on the court.
