James Borrego Knicks Interview

New York, NY – The New York Knicks are set to interview associate coach James Borrego for their head coaching position, sources told ESPN on Wednesday. This marks a significant development as the franchise continues its search for a new leader following Tom Thibodeau‘s unexpected firing.

Borrego, 47, previously served as the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2018 to 2022. During his tenure, he led the team to the play-in tournament twice and finished with a record of 138 wins and 163 losses. He was dismissed after the 2021-22 season and later joined the New Orleans Pelicans as an assistant coach.

The Knicks have already interviewed several notable candidates, including Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins, who were both recently let go from their respective head coaching positions. They are also considering Micah Nori, an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves since 2021.

The team is actively seeking a new head coach after Thibodeau led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. However, the Knicks have faced challenges in their search, with several teams reportedly rebuffing their advances for interviews this month.

Sources indicate the Knicks are continuing to explore potential coaching options as they aim to find the right fit for their franchise. As the only NBA team without a head coach at this stage, the Knicks will look to finalize this critical position soon.
