Bad Homburg, Germany — Ekaterina Alexandrova advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open on Wednesday after defeating Maria Sakkari in a closely contested match. The match ended with a score of 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3.

Alexandrova, the tournament’s eighth seed, displayed resilience against Sakkari, a wild card competitor and former World No. 3. This was their first meeting on grass, and it ended a streak where Sakkari won six of their previous seven encounters.

This victory came after both players demonstrated differing seasons. Alexandrova has shown solid performance this year, including semifinal runs at major tournaments and a title win in Linz.
