Florinda Meza Sparks Controversy Over Chespirito’s Children Comments

Mexico City, Mexico — Florinda Meza stirred controversy after comments she made about the children of her late husband, comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, also known as Chespirito, resurfaced online. In a 2004 interview on the Chilean TV program ‘Pasiones’, Meza referred to Gómez Bolaños’ six children as ‘great defects,’ igniting criticism after the recent launch of the series ‘Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo.’
During the interview, Meza recounted the challenges she faced in her relationship with the famous comic, which lasted more than 28 years. She noted that Chespirito had ‘seven great defects,’ which included his six children and his then-wife, Graciela Fernández. Her remarks seemed to imply that the family was an obstacle to their romantic relationship.
Gómez Bolaños responded to her claims in the interview, insisting, ‘No, how can you say they are defects? They are wonderful children.’ Meza, undeterred, declared, ‘If they were mine, they would be wonderful, but since they are not mine, they were a problem and a defect.’ This exchange created an uncomfortable atmosphere, as revealed by Gómez Bolaños’ negative head shakes.
Furthermore, Meza called Gómez Bolaños ‘a very unfaithful man,’ explaining that she didn’t want to be just another woman on his list of affairs. ‘There were many efforts made,’ she said, reflecting on her desire to avoid being part of any turmoil caused by his infidelity. ‘Looking back, I realize that I was indeed his ‘ideal woman.’
Roberto Gómez Bolaños had six children: Cecilia, Marcela, Paulina, Roberto, Teresa, and Graciela, from his previous marriage to Graciela Fernández. He later married Meza in 2004, but they did not have children together.
Following the recent airing of the documentary series about Gómez Bolaños, many on social media have criticized Meza’s comments, deemed disrespectful towards the children. The series, which aims to shed light on the life of the legendary comedian, continues to generate discussion surrounding the controversial details of his personal life.
While the series has released four episodes thus far, it consists of eight total episodes available on the subscription platform Max. The criticisms of Meza’s remarks appear to underscore the complexities of her long-standing relationship with Gómez Bolaños and the familial implications of their love story.
