Weekend Heat Advisory Issued for Parts of the Midwest

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of the Midwest as hot and humid conditions return this weekend. High temperatures on Friday are expected to reach the upper 80s and low 90s, with heat index values climbing into the mid-90s.
The heat will remain strong through the weekend. On Saturday, the heat index could range from 90 to 100 degrees, making conditions uncomfortable for many. A cold front is anticipated to move into the area Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for thunderstorms.
The timing and strength of these storms will depend on when the cold front arrives. If the front moves in later, strong storms with gusty winds and large hail may develop. However, earlier arrival could result in weaker storm activity.
In addition to the heat, the forecast for Sunday includes scattered thunderstorms, particularly across northern Indiana, central, and northeast lower Michigan. The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen if spending time outdoors.
The temperatures will create humid conditions statewide, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s in the Lower Peninsula and 80s in the Upper Peninsula. Residents near Grand Rapids could experience a heat index value of 99 degrees on Saturday. Severe thunderstorms could pose risks, including heavy rainfall and damaging winds.
As temperatures soar, awareness of heat safety is advised for all outdoor activities during the weekend.
