Frost Advisory Issued for Oneida County This Weekend
ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. — The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory early Friday morning, effective Saturday from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.
According to the service, overnight temperatures are expected to drop between 32 and 36 degrees, leading to potential frost in areas. “A few low-lying areas up on the Tug Hill could fall below freezing briefly Saturday morning,” officials noted.
Frost can damage sensitive outdoor plants, and the service warned, “Sensitive outdoor vegetation may be killed if left uncovered.” Experts recommend taking precautions now to shield tender plants during this cold snap.
Frost advisories are typically issued between May and October when conditions favor frost formation, especially with temperatures at 36 degrees or lower. When frost conditions are particularly severe, it can lead to what is called a “killing frost,” which can end the growing season.
Residents are advised to cover sensitive plants before sunset on Friday night to help preserve heat or to bring plants indoors if possible. By safeguarding plants, gardeners can protect their outdoor gardens from the impending chill.
