Tulsa Hosts Tulane After Historic Win Over Oklahoma State
TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa is looking to build on its recent upset win over Oklahoma State as they prepare to host Tulane in a critical American Athletic Conference clash this Saturday. The Golden Hurricane (2-2, 0-1 AAC) will play the Green Wave (3-1, 0-0 AAC) on September 27 at 3:00 p.m. CT at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
Coming off a 19-12 victory at Oklahoma State, Tulsa aims to capitalize on its momentum. That win marked its first in Stillwater since 1951. Running back Dominic Richardson had an outstanding performance with 31 carries for 146 yards, bringing his season total to 442 rushing yards—ranking second in the AAC.
Linebacker Ray Coney leads the defense with 49 total tackles, the highest in the nation. He averages 12.3 tackles per game and has delivered two games with 14 or more tackles this season. Receiver Zion Booker is also a key player, ranking second in the AAC with an average of 7.3 receptions per game.
Tulane enters the matchup with strong statistics, averaging 383.8 total offensive yards per game while giving up 385.0. The Green Wave excels in the running game, averaging 211 rushing yards per game, which is 24th in the nation.
Tulane’s quarterback has shown efficiency, helping the team limit interceptions to just 0.88 percent, ranking them 19th nationally. The Green Wave have a turnover margin of +1.5 per game, setting them up as a formidable opponent.
The rivalry between these two teams has seen Tulsa lead the overall series 13-6, with a 7-2 advantage at home. However, Tulane has won the last two matchups, including a close 24-22 victory in 2023. Tulsa’s last win against Tulane was in 2021, a tightly contested 20-13 overtime game.
Head coach Tre Lamb emphasized the need for improved efficiency in the red zone following last week’s victory. “We can win on the road and beat good opponents, but we have to improve in several areas,” he said. “We can’t settle for field goals instead of finishing drives.”
As the Golden Hurricane aim to prove their win against Oklahoma State was not a fluke, Tulsa looks to establish its presence in the upper tier of the AAC while Tulane hopes to make a statement in their league opener.
