Deco Addresses Barcelona’s Concerns Over Yamal’s Injury Management
BARCELONA, Spain — FC Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed he discussed Lamine Yamal‘s injury management with Spanish national team director Aitor Karanka. The conversation addressed concerns after Yamal, 18, sustained pubic discomfort while playing for La Roja during the September international break.
Despite his discomfort, Yamal participated in two matches, totaling over 140 minutes, before returning to Barcelona with an exacerbated injury. This situation led to him missing four consecutive matches and left coach Julian Nagelsmann frustrated.
Nagelsmann questioned the handling of Yamal’s injury by Spain manager Luis de la Fuente. Consequently, Barcelona is alert ahead of the next international break scheduled for mid-October.
Deco, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, stated that the frustrations felt by Nagelsmann have been resolved. He emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationships between the club and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). “There is nothing (in terms of tension), we must use these things to improve,” Deco said, highlighting that both Barcelona and the national team are important to each other.
Deco explained that their discussions focused on improving communication protocols for player management. He noted, “Once the player is with the national team, the coach will decide.” He reassured fans there is no ongoing controversy with the RFEF.
The upcoming squad announcement for the national team is expected this week, as Barcelona players aim for a quick recovery.
