Jonathan Kuminga Warriors Contract News

San Francisco, CA — The Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga have agreed on a two-year, $48.5 million contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday. This agreement ends a prolonged contract stalemate during the offseason.

The deal, which includes a team option for the second year, allows for the possibility of Kuminga being traded during the upcoming season or signing a new contract after the 2025-26 campaign, sources said. Kuminga, who is eager to maintain control over his future, declined a three-year, $75 million offer in favor of this shorter deal.

“We’re pleased to come to an agreement that works for both Jonathan and the team,” said Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. Kuminga, 22, missed the Warriors’ media day and the first day of practice while finalizing the deal but is expected to play a significant role in the team’s success this season.

In addition to Kuminga’s signing, the Warriors secured a one-year agreement with free agent Seth Curry, his younger brother, as they prepare for training camp. However, the team currently has to navigate their roster, as they cannot start the season with 15 standard players unless they make trades.

Kuminga’s contract marks the fourth-highest salary on the Warriors roster, which will lead to an increase in the team’s luxury tax penalty. Nonetheless, Golden State still retains financial flexibility for additional signings. Kuminga’s performance has been promising; he averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds during the regular season last year and significantly improved when the team’s star player, Steph Curry, was injured.

As both sides work together, the Warriors seem ready to lean on Kuminga’s talents moving forward. He becomes the third restricted free agent to finalize a contract this month, resolving his standing before the deadline for qualifying offers.

With the current roster now nearly full, all eyes will be on Kuminga as he slips back into his role with the team and looks to build on his success from last season.
