Marozsan Goffin Shanghai Masters

Shanghai, China — The 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters kicked off with exciting matches on October 1, where Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan and Belgium’s David Goffin shone bright on day one.

Marozsan secured his place in the second round after defeating Swiss wild card Stan Wawrinka 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. This victory marked Marozsan’s 24th tour-level win of the season, surpassing his previous 23 wins in 2024. With a remarkable first serve win rate of 83%, Marozsan achieved his victory on his third match point, stopping Wawrinka, who aimed to become the oldest Masters 1000 match winner in history.

“I feel great playing here. Shanghai has a special place in my heart since I reached the quarter-finals here last year,” Marozsan stated following his win. He expressed confidence ahead of facing American Taylor Fritz in the next round.

Earlier in the day, David Goffin returned to competitive play and made an impact, overcoming American Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4 to grab his second Top 10 win of the season. Goffin faced Shelton for the first time after the latter’s recovery from a significant shoulder injury.

“I felt really well with my ground strokes from the start. I served effectively, which was key to putting pressure on Ben,” Goffin said after the match, highlighting his strong performance in the tournament.

The duo’s wins set an exciting start for the tournament, with more matches slated as the action unfolds in Shanghai.
