MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras expressed his belief that there is no better baseball team than the Brew Crew in a personal essay titled “No One Better Than Us.” Published in The Players’ Tribune this week, Contreras reflects on his journey and the team’s spirit during the 2025 season.

Contreras begins the piece by celebrating the Brewers’ impressive 97 wins this season, noting it as a remarkable achievement. He emphasizes that the team’s success comes not from flashy talk or attention-grabbing moments but from a collective spirit he refers to as “unidad.”

Recalling his trade from the Atlanta Braves to the Brewers three years ago, Contreras shares his initial hesitations. He described feeling out of place, saying, “Trade me back” when informed about the move. However, he quickly fell in love with Milwaukee, noting, “It’s an amazing place. The organization, the fans, it’s such a great baseball city.”

Contreras also addressed the team’s journey over the past few seasons, highlighting how they fell short during the playoffs last year. He recounted walking off the field in tears after the early exit, feeling a deep sense of responsibility. “I’m feeling so responsible. But then I’m seeing guys … they almost look happy,” he wrote, pointing to a divide in emotional investment among teammates.

The loss of manager Craig Counsell following last season was another tough moment for the Brewers, who had just achieved a division championship. Contreras expressed admiration for Counsell, especially for how he supported Latino players. He remarked, “I have a lot of love for Craig. He cared so much about our Latino players.”

Reflecting on his current season, Contreras noted the skepticism surrounding the Brewers’ potential. Despite starting slowly, he pointed out that the team achieved historic records and maintained focus and unity. He added, “The ball is round,” indicating that many factors could influence the outcome of a game.

Concluding his message, Contreras articulated a dream of winning the first World Series in Brewers history, saying, “I hope to spend my whole career here — and I hope to be on the first World Series winner in Brewers history.” His heartfelt commitment to the team resonates strongly with fans.
