Oklahoma Football Kent State Game

Norman, OK — The No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners are set to host the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday, October 4, at 3 p.m. CT. This matchup at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium marks the second meeting between the two teams, with Oklahoma winning the previous game 33-3 back in 2022.

Oklahoma, currently boasting a 4-0 record and ranked fifth in AP polls, will look to maintain its winning streak after a recent victory over Auburn. Under fourth-year head coach Brent Venables, the Sooners have made a significant touchdown impact this season, averaging 31.3 points per game while leading the nation in defensive statistics.

The Sooners have structured a strong season, tying for their highest ranking at No. 5 under Venables, validating their status as contenders in the SEC. The 2025 season is particularly notable, as it marks the 131st in Oklahoma football history, with a legacy including 50 all-time conference titles and significant accolades in national rankings.

Oklahoma’s defense has been a standout this season, capturing the top spot nationally in sacks per game with 4.0 and a remarkable 17.9% opponent third-down conversion rate. The Sooners have limited their first opponents to only three points in the first quarter across their first four games.

Right before game day, fans are invited to participate in the “Walk of Champions,” where players arrive to the stadium at 12:45 p.m. The event will feature fan interactions along the team’s pathway to the venue.

In addition, free public tailgating has been initiated this season on the historic North Oval, fostering an electric atmosphere for fans. The newly adopted tradition allows fans to set up their tailgates close to the stadium, starting Friday evenings before home games.

With key players expected to make a significant impact in the game, or transferring to Oklahoma enriching their depth chart, the Sooners are focusing on solidifying their home advantage at Owen Field. For the latest gathering of fan-spirited activities, “Party at the Palace” will commence prior to kickoff, featuring food trucks, entertainment, and team activities.

This week’s clash against Kent State is anticipated as an important match in Oklahoma’s journey this season, as they aim to stay competitive in the SEC.

As the Sooners gear up for their latest game, players are motivated to uphold the rich tradition of excellence that Oklahoma football represents.
