NFL Week 5: Titans Rally for Comeback Win Against Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Tennessee Titans secured their first victory of the season with an incredible 22-21 comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Ward led the Titans back from a 21-6 deficit in the fourth quarter, completing 13 of 18 passes for 193 yards during the final frame.
Ward’s performance marked a significant turnaround after completing only 5 of 16 passes in the first half. “I think the second half, I really saw the field better in terms of just getting the ball out, letting my guys make plays,” Ward said. He finished the game with a career-high 265 passing yards.
The Titans were trailing 21-6 with less than 10 minutes left when their fortunes began to change. A tipped pass intended for wide receiver Ridley was intercepted by Cardinals linebacker Taylor-Demerson. However, he fumbled shortly after, allowing Tennessee receiver Shepard to recover the ball in the end zone, narrowing the score to 21-12.
With renewed energy, Tennessee’s defense forced a punt on Arizona’s next drive, and Ward took over at his own 18-yard line with just 1:53 remaining. He completed three out of four attempts, including a critical 38-yard pass to wide receiver Ridley, setting up Gonzalez for a 29-yard game-winning field goal.
“Cam did a hell of a job of controlling that offense and getting us down to be able to kick that field goal,” said Titans defensive lineman Simmons. “His calmness in that pocket was impressive, especially for a rookie quarterback.” This win snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Titans, marking a much-needed turnaround in their season.
