Hulu Cancels Bill Belichick’s Documentary Amid UNC Football Struggles

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Hulu has canceled its planned documentary series on North Carolina football’s first season under head coach Bill Belichick, multiple sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The docuseries was intended to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the Tar Heels’ season, produced by EverWonder Studio. Originally announced months ago, the series followed a previous agreement between UNC, Belichick, and NFL Films to feature the team in HBO’s “Hard Knocks” during the offseason.
This season, the Tar Heels are struggling with a record of 2-3. They have faced tough losses against TCU, UCF, and Clemson, being outscored 120-33 in those three games. Belichick’s inaugural season in college football has not been what fans anticipated.
According to reports, one reason for the cancellation relates to Belichick’s discomfort with how much his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, would be featured in the series. Despite some speculation, UNC has denied that this was a primary reason for the show’s discontinuation and stated that the decision ultimately came from Belichick himself.
Documents obtained by ESPN indicated that Hudson was expected to play a significant role in the documentary. A memo described her involvement in the filming process and mentioned that she would be present on the sidelines during games and practices.
The decision to stop the project likely ties more to the challenges Belichick’s team is facing on the field. After a tough loss to Clemson, Belichick called for improvements, remarking that his players need to execute better rather than changing fundamental strategies.
General manager Michael Lombardi recently wrote a letter to donors asking for patience during this “rebuilding” phase, acknowledging that many players from previous recruiting classes have left the program. However, Belichick himself did not refer to this as a rebuilding year, a sentiment his players seem to share.
Receiver Shipp voiced his determination after the Clemson defeat, stating, “I’m not here to rebuild, I’m here to win football games.” He emphasized that his focus remains completely on succeeding this season.
With their next game scheduled against California on October 17, UNC hopes to turn their season around and perhaps reinstate some interest in future media projects.
