Priscilla Arizona Rain Forecast

PHOENIX, Arizona — Significant weather changes are expected as remnants of Tropical Storm Priscilla approach the area this weekend. A Flood Watch is in effect for northern Arizona, including Flagstaff, from Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening.

Today, high temperatures in Phoenix could reach the upper 90s, potentially hitting 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature reaches this mark, it will be the final triple-digit reading for some time. Tropical moisture ahead of Priscilla is already resulting in afternoon showers across higher terrain east of Phoenix.

As Priscilla weakens west of the Baja Peninsula on Thursday, additional tropical moisture is forecasted to move into the Valley by Thursday night, bringing a good chance of rain. Most rain is predicted to fall in western Arizona and in the higher terrain north and east of Phoenix. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to drop to the mid-90s.

From Thursday night into Friday, moisture from Priscilla will intertwine with a disturbance approaching from the west, leading to thunderstorms and increased rainfall across the Valley. This combination could significantly affect Friday’s commutes, which is why it has been designated as one of three First Alert Weather Days. Highs on Friday are projected in the low to mid-90s.

Rainfall is likely to continue into Saturday, with potential flash flooding in some areas. Although not all regions in the Valley are expected to experience heavy rain, the possibility remains due to saturated ground conditions. Even Sunday may see a 40% chance of rain in the Valley, with temperatures expected to fall into the 80s.

Rainfall totals from Thursday night through Sunday may reach 1 to 1.5 inches in the Valley, with higher elevations possibly receiving over 2 inches. Forecasts indicate a 20% chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday as another tropical system and Pacific storm may move into the area.
