Brussels, Belgium — Benjamin Bonzi secured a convincing victory over Reilly Opelka on the opening day of the ATP 250 tournament in Brussels on Monday, October 13, 2025. The matchup concluded with a score of 6-4, 6-4 after just 70 minutes of play.

Bonzi, ranked No. 53 in the PIF ATP Rankings, successfully countered Opelka’s powerful serve, which delivered 13 aces during the match. The French player showcased impressive return skills, particularly during a critical five-game streak that propelled him from a 3-3 tie to victory in the first set.

“Of course, it’s easier when you played someone the past week, and I knew how he would serve,” Bonzi stated following the match. “But it’s completely different conditions here than in Shanghai. It was way slower in China. Here it is pretty fast. It’s indoors, so his serve is way more efficient,” he added.

With a 14-19 record this season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Bonzi is eager to continue his success at indoor events, where he previously boasted an impressive 21-1 record, including winning his first ATP Tour title in Metz. He is set to face either the sixth seed or fellow countryman in the next round.

In another first-round match on the same day, American player Giron also triumphed, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-4. In the upcoming round, Giron will encounter the fourth seed, though he has not won a set in their previous two matchups.
