Milwaukee, WI – Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star forward for the Milwaukee Bucks, announced plans to finish his basketball career in Greece after his time in the NBA. During an appearance on ANT1’s ‘The 2night Show’, the 30-year-old expressed his desire to return to his homeland once he retires from professional basketball.

“I don’t want to live in the United States. As soon as I leave the NBA, I want to return to Greece,” Antetokounmpo said. He added that he could play in the NBA until he is 36 or 38 years old, stating, “I’d like to end my career in a Greek team, why not?”

Antetokounmpo, who began his professional career with Filathlitikos from 2011 to 2013, confirmed he is open to playing for any Greek team, including Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, or Aris. He was the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has since become a two-time NBA MVP and a nine-time All-Star.

Entering his 13th season with the Bucks, Antetokounmpo has committed to the team despite offseason trade discussions. He has led Milwaukee to one championship in 2021, and his career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists highlight his dominance on the court. In the last season, he averaged 30.4 points per game.

The announcement comes as the Bucks sign Antetokounmpo’s brother, Alex, to a two-way contract. This signing marks a historic moment in the NBA, with three Antetokounmpo brothers potentially playing together on the same roster. Giannis has expressed his commitment to the Bucks but hinted at a willingness to explore options if the franchise’s direction changes.

As he looks ahead to his future, Antetokounmpo’s goal of returning to Greece reflects his deep roots and affection for his home country.
