Giovanni Simeone Football Transfer News

Sevilla, Spain – On October 14, 2025, Matías Almeyda, head coach of Sevilla FC, has requested the signing of Giovanni Simeone from Torino as his top priority for the winter transfer window.

Almeyda, who took over as coach in June 2025, believes that Simeone, the son of famed coach Diego Simeone, would bring intensity, goals, and character to a Sevilla team that has shown improvement recently, especially after a decisive 4-1 victory against Barcelona at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.

The connection between Almeyda and Simeone dates back to 2015, when Almeyda coached Simeone at Banfield during the forward’s early career after leaving River Plate. This pivotal experience helped shape Simeone’s solid trajectory in Italy, where he has played for several clubs, including Genoa, Fiorentina, Cagliari, Hellas Verona, Napoli, and now Torino. He has made six appearances in Serie A during the current 2025-26 season.

Almeyda sees in Simeone a forward who embodies the qualities he desires for his project: constant work, mobility, high pressing, and defensive commitment. Unlike other players in the squad, the Argentine striker offers a mix of energy and international experience that Almeyda particularly values as Sevilla searches for stability after years of inconsistency.

At 30 years old, with over 360 professional matches and 89 goals across Argentina and Italy, Simeone combines maturity and a competitive hunger. Although he was often a substitute at Napoli, he proved to be a valuable asset in tight matches, possessing a goal-scoring instinct that could be crucial for a Sevilla side currently lacking offensive efficiency.

Reports from Italy indicate that Torino would be open to negotiating Simeone’s departure for a reasonable offer. Sevilla, mindful of its financial constraints, is considering a loan deal with an option to buy, which would strengthen their attack without jeopardizing future plans. The potential reunion between Almeyda and Simeone would not only be a sporting transaction but also a bet on the human and football chemistry that once thrived a decade ago at Banfield.
