Patrick Mahomes and Maxx Crosby: Friends Off Field, Foes On It
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders, a notable rivalry is set to unfold between quarterback Patrick Mahomes and pass rusher Maxx Crosby this Sunday afternoon.
Both players have acknowledged a deep respect for each other that transcends their fierce competitiveness on the field. Crosby, known for his relentless play, referred to his admiration for Mahomes as “ultimate respect.” On his weekly SiriusXM show, Crosby said, “I know greatness when I see it — and I’ve been around a lot of greats.”
During a press conference, Mahomes returned the sentiment, highlighting Crosby’s skill and competitive spirit. “When you go on that football field, it’s whatever it takes to win,” Mahomes stated. “I have a ton of respect for that. Those are the guys that you want on your team.”
Both athletes share a mentality of leaving everything on the field. Mahomes praised Crosby’s consistent effort, noting, “You have to know where he’s at on every single snap because he plays extremely hard.” He added, “To have a guy be that talented — and to have that high of a motor? That’s special.”
Crosby’s ability to maintain his performance despite being double-teamed or chipped by blockers impresses Mahomes. “He doesn’t let that affect him,” Mahomes explained. “It’s a great challenge for us to go up against him and that defense.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also acknowledged their unique relationship, saying, “He is 100 miles an hour every play. He and Patrick? I think they’re friends, actually. They compete against each other — and that’s the beauty of the sport.”
The upcoming matchup promises to be a thrilling contest, as Mahomes and Crosby continue to push each other to excel, illustrating the spirit of competition and camaraderie in football.
