Injuries Mount for Washington Ahead of Cowboys Showdown
DALLAS — The Washington Commanders faced a tough weekend leading up to their clash with the Dallas Cowboys, already dealing with injuries to key players. Notably, receiver Deebo Samuel was ruled out of the game due to a worsening heel issue, compounded by the absence of receiver Terry McLaurin due to a quad injury.
Samuel had been playing through the injury but was ultimately unable to travel to Dallas after being ruled out about 24 hours before kickoff. The Commanders elevated receiver Robbie Chosen from their practice squad in response, adding him to the roster alongside Chris Moore, Luke McCaffrey, and Jaylin Lane.
The injury situation worsened for Washington when defensive tackle Daron Payne fell ill but managed to travel and was expected to play. However, the elevation of fellow defensive tackle Sheldon Day suggested that Payne might see reduced playing time.
As kickoff approached, the list of players who would not suit up for Washington included QB Josh Johnson (emergency third quarterback), WR Terry McLaurin, WR Deebo Samuel, LB Ale Kaho, LB Kain Medrano, OL Brandon Coleman, and OT George Fant.
On the Cowboys’ side, receiver CeeDee Lamb was a key player to watch after suffering an ankle injury but was cleared to play ahead of the matchup. Several other Dallas players were questionable coming into the weekend, including offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius and defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, while cornerback Trevon Diggs was ruled out due to a concussion suffered at home.
As it stands, injuries will significantly impact both teams’ strategies as they battle in the NFC East.
