Sergiño Dest Psv Champions League

Eindhoven, Netherlands — Pro Soccer Wire reports that Sergiño Dest was removed from PSV Eindhoven‘s starting lineup for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Napoli due to arriving late at the stadium. This decision was announced by PSV manager Peter Bosz, who emphasized the importance of discipline.

Dest had appeared alongside Bosz at a pre-match press conference on Monday, suggesting he would start the match. However, on Tuesday, he did not arrive on time, leading to his exclusion from the lineup. “Sergiño was late, so you don’t play. It wasn’t a difficult decision at all; we made agreements. Everyone has to stick to them, including him,” Bosz stated.

“Very unfortunate for us, and for him too. He would have loved to show up. For me, one second is too late, but it was much more. You can just be on time, come on,” Bosz added, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Bosz further noted that, while other clubs may handle discipline differently, PSG has set a high standard. He remarked, “This happens at every club; we set the bar high in everything, including discipline. If you don’t, everyone knows the consequences. I never considered making a different decision for a second.”

This season, Dest has been an important player for PSV when fit, starting nine of the team’s 12 matches in all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists. He returned to the US men’s national team last month after an 18-month absence due to a torn ACL but missed the recent squad due to a minor injury.

Interestingly, this incident recalls a similar discipline issue involving Malik Tillman, another USMNT player, who also missed a game two years ago for arriving late after oversleeping.
