Matisse Thybulle Cleared to Play in Season Opener Against Timberwolves
PORTLAND, Ore. — Matisse Thybulle has been cleared to play in the Portland Trail Blazers’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. The news comes after Thybulle missed some preseason games due to a knee injury.
During a practice session on Monday, Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups mentioned that Thybulle participated fully in contact drills, indicating positive progress ahead of the regular season. “I’m not sure if Thybulle will be available opening night, but he’s trending in the right direction,” Billups said.
If Thybulle is unable to play, Jerami Grant is expected to step in and receive increased minutes from the bench. Thybulle played in 67 games during the 2024-25 campaign and has shown his ability to impact both ends of the court.
In other news, Billups announced that the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game will include Jrue Holiday, Shaedon Sharpe, Toumani Camara, Deni Avdija, and Donovan Clingan. Billups expressed confidence in his decision, stating, “I feel like we have seven starters on this team.”
Billups acknowledged the challenges of selecting the starting five, especially with established players like Grant who has been a key player since 2022. “He’s a pro, a pro’s pro. He’s critical to our squad,” Billups added regarding Grant’s transition to a bench role.
Thybulle remarked on his readiness to join the team, saying, “Now I’m just trying to catch up with these guys. We’re playing a really fast pace of basketball this year.” His focus is on improving each day in practice and contributing to the team’s efforts.
The Trail Blazers look to start their season strong against the Timberwolves, and Thybulle’s return could be an important factor in their performance.
