Dallas Cowboys Defense Struggles Football

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys, with a 3-4-1 record, prepare for their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. The Cowboys’ offense, led by Dak Prescott, has shown promise, but the defense has been a major concern this season.

Under the leadership of first-year defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys rank near the bottom of the league in both yards allowed (404.6) and points allowed (31.3) per game. Only the Cincinnati Bengals have worse statistics in these areas.

Last week, in a blowout loss to the Denver Broncos, the Cowboys surrendered 426 yards and 44 points, marking their second game this season of giving up at least 40 points. This has raised alarms about the team’s defensive execution.

Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman commented on the struggles during a broadcast on 105.3 The Fan. “Eberflus is a good defensive coordinator. He’s proven that over the years,” Aikman said. “The frustrating thing is that they’ve given up big plays despite calling the right scheme. It’s more about execution.”

In a slight reprieve for the Cowboys on Monday, the Cardinals will be without starting quarterback Kyler Murray for the third consecutive game. Veteran backup Jacoby Brissett will fill in. Arizona has not won in their last five outings, struggling offensively as well.

The matchup is set to kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium, as both teams look to turn their seasons around.
