Florida Football Injuries Sec Matchup

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Florida Gators enter their SEC matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field on Saturday with significant injury concerns. A total of 14 players are unavailable, including key wide receiver Eugene Wilson III, who is sidelined with an ankle sprain, and wide receiver Dallas Wilson, who is out with a broken foot.

Interim head coach Billy Gonzales confirmed that Florida will be bolstered by the return of wide receivers Vernell Brown III and Aidan Mizell. Brown, who missed the last game against Georgia, has made a significant impact this season with 32 catches for 451 yards, while Mizell has contributed 11 receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown.

“He’s been out running around,” Gonzales said about Brown. “He’s done a great job catching balls. He was in shoulder pads with us, rocking and rolling.”

On the other side, Kentucky is also facing injury issues, with nine players ruled out, including starting defensive tackle Tavion Gadson, who has recorded 2.5 sacks this season. Defensive back DJ Waller Jr.’s status is still uncertain, as he remains a game-time decision.

Florida, struggling with a 3-5 record this season, is looking to shake off a recent 24-20 loss to Georgia. The Gators have not won a game on the road yet this season and must find a way to energize themselves for the upcoming challenge.

“Going on the road, we have to create our own energy to be able to perform to our ability that we need to,” Florida running back KD Daniels said.

The matchup will feature two young quarterbacks: Florida’s DJ Lagway and Kentucky’s Cutter Boley. Lagway has thrown for 1,679 yards with 10 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while Boley has posted 1,376 yards with 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Florida’s defense, which ranks 32nd in the nation in scoring defense and 43rd in total defense, will play a critical role in the outcome of the game. The Gators are keen to pressure Boley and capitalize on turnovers.

Despite struggles, there’s genuine hope within the team as they prepare for the game kicking off at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday, Nov. 8.
