Tez Johnson Fantasy Football 2025

TAMPA, Fla. — Rookie wide receiver Tez Johnson has shown promise during his first season, raising questions about whether he could emerge as a league-winner for fantasy football players during the 2025 stretch run.

Every fantasy football season introduces players who defy expectations, particularly rookies who step up due to injuries or changes in their roles. Johnson, prior to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ Week 9 bye, demonstrated flashes of brilliance, recording multiple games with significant fantasy potential.

Despite his small stature of 154 pounds—a concern for many analysts—Johnson’s talent is hard to ignore. His metrics suggest that he can perform at a high level despite doubts about his ideal size for an NFL receiver. Notably, he managed an impressive performance against Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, where he totaled 181 receiving yards and one touchdown.

“Tez has shown his ability to adjust his routes mid-play, which is impressive for a rookie,” Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield said. “His football IQ is high, and that’s crucial at this level.”

However, Johnson’s success is partly beleaguered by his weight and some lackluster combine results. NFL history shows that very few players lighter than Johnson have succeeded long-term in the league. His speed score, when adjusted for size, ranks as one of the lowest among receivers since 2000. Yet, his other athletic metrics—particularly in drills—indicate considerable explosiveness and agility.

As injuries impact the Buccaneers’ roster, including Chris Godwin‘s likely absence, Johnson’s opportunities may increase. He has already made noticeable contributions in games, averaging above 9.3 fantasy points in matchups where he sees at least 50% of the team’s route share.

Looking to Week 10, analysts are optimistic about Johnson’s potential against the New England Patriots, who struggle against slot receivers. “This could be a pivotal moment for him,” noted Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “If he can capitalize on this opportunity, we might see him become a reliable option moving forward.”

With the proper adjustments following the bye week, analysts believe Johnson could see a significant uptick in production. “The Bucs need a reliable weapon in the passing game, and he fits that bill,” added Mayfield.

Ultimately, Johnson needs to overcome skepticism surrounding his physicality and prove he can consistently compete at a high level. If he successfully navigates his opportunities in the coming weeks, he could transform into a key player for fantasy teams aiming for success in the final stretch of the 2025 season.
