SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has been ruled out for Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs due to bilateral knee tendonitis. This follows his early exit from Wednesday’s game against the Spurs, where he played only 12 minutes before being sidelined.

Kuminga, 23, was officially diagnosed with knee soreness after he exited the game at the end of the first half. While he was able to suit up for that matchup, head coach Steve Kerr opted to start him off the bench for the first time this season. Before leaving the game, Kuminga recorded four rebounds but was unable to score.

“We want to be cautious with him,” said Kerr. “Kuminga has been dealing with some soreness, and although there is no structural damage, we want to manage his health.”

In 13 games this season, Kuminga has averaged 13.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting nearly 48% from the field. He signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract with the Warriors this past September. The second year of his contract includes a team option designed for future negotiation.

The Warriors are currently in the midst of a challenging six-game road trip, with a record of 1-1 so far. Following their game against the Spurs, they will face the New Orleans Pelicans and the Orlando Magic before concluding their road trip in Miami against the Heat.

If Kuminga’s absence extends, rookie Will Richard is expected to step up in the Warriors’ offense. The team has struggled with consistency early in the season, holding a record of 6-6. Having suffered injuries in the previous season, Kuminga’s return is anticipated as the Warriors aim to stabilize their lineup.
