Villanova Wildcats Host Old Dominion Monarchs in Tuesday Night Showdown
VILLANOVA, PA – The Villanova Wildcats (4-1) will welcome the Old Dominion Monarchs (3-4) for a college basketball game on Tuesday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion. This matchup follows a solid performance by Villanova, which has won three consecutive home games.
The Wildcats are heavily favored in this contest, with a betting line set at Villanova -21.5. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and can be listened to on the Villanova Sports Radio Network.
Old Dominion, part of the Sun Belt Conference, finished with a preseason ranking of fifth, having received two first-place votes. The Monarchs’ roster includes junior guard Robert Davis Jr., recognized as the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year. However, Davis has struggled early this season, averaging 7.8 points per game with a shooting percentage of just 29.3% from the field.
Senior guards KC Shaw and LJ Thomas lead Old Dominion’s scoring efforts, averaging 14.2 and 13.4 points per game, respectively. Shaw, who recently missed a game due to injury, is a 6’4” transfer from Maryland Eastern Shore. Thomas, a 6’2” transfer from Austin Peay, will be key for the Monarchs as they seek to improve their recent performance after a 75-71 loss to their city rival Drexel.
In contrast, Villanova comes off a convincing 70-55 win against La Salle, marking the first game of the season where all players were available. Redshirt freshman forward Matt Hodge led the Wildcats with 17 points in that game. Villanova aims to capitalize on its rebounding advantage, particularly against a primarily guard-heavy lineup from Old Dominion.
Villanova’s offensive statistics are impressive, with an average of 82.2 points per game, largely thanks to the prolific scoring of Bryce Lindsay, who leads the team with 20.4 points per game. The Wildcats also excel in rebounding, ranking sixth nationally with 17 offensive rebounds per game.
This will be the first meeting of the season between Old Dominion and Villanova. They previously faced off in postseason play, where Villanova won 71-68 in the 1977 NIT, and Old Dominion triumphed 89-81 in the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
Following this game, Old Dominion will continue its five-game road stretch, next facing William & Mary on Sunday, November 30.
