Addy Brown Leads Iowa State Past ASU with Record-Breaking Performance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Iowa State University sophomore Addy Brown made history Thursday by scoring 41 points in a 96-88 victory over Arizona State University in the second round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at the T-Mobile Center.
This impressive performance not only propelled the Cyclones to the quarterfinals but also put Brown’s name in the record books. Her 41 points rank as the third highest in Big 12 Tournament history, following Brittney Griner‘s 45 points for Baylor in 2012 and Andrea Riley‘s 43 for Oklahoma State in 2010.
Brown shot 13-of-23 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line while contributing six rebounds and four assists. She fell just one point short of the Iowa State program record of 42 points set by Tonya Burns in 1984.
Despite being outshot by Arizona State, which had a higher field goal percentage, Iowa State dominated from the free-throw line, converting 33 of 40 attempts compared to ASU’s 12 of 18, which proved crucial in the win.
The Cyclones, who led by as many as 20 points during the game, received additional support from Audi Crooks, who added 20 points and seven rebounds. The seventh-seeded Cyclones improved their record to 22-10 and will face second-seeded Baylor, ranked 17th nationally, in the quarterfinals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Iowa State controlled much of the game, overcoming an early five-point deficit to establish leads of 28-17 and maintain an advantage throughout. Brown’s hot start included 13 points in the first half, as the Cyclones continued to build momentum.
For Arizona State, Jalyn Brown led the scoring with 26 points and Tyi Skinner added 23, showcasing a strong offensive performance despite the loss.
“We knew this was a must-win for us, and we came out ready,” Brown said after the game. “I’m proud of my teammates and how we battled together.”
Iowa State’s triumph signifies their determination to contend in the tournament, continuing their impressive run as they advance into the next round against a tough Baylor team.
