CHICAGO, IL — Veteran free agent right-hander Adrian Houser has signed with the Chicago White Sox on a one-year, $1.35 million contract. He is slated to start Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners at Rate Field, marking his season debut.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox designated right-hander Yoendrys Gomez for assignment. Originally, Chicago had planned for Bryse Wilson (0-2, 6.00 ERA) to take the mound. Wilson, who has predominantly served as a reliever this season, has struggled in his last three starts, going 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA.

Houser, 32, has an overall career record of 32-39, with a 4.21 ERA across 608⅔ innings in 152 regular-season games, 104 of which were as a starter. His previous experience includes stints with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2015 to 2023 and a brief period with the New York Mets in 2024.

After being released by the Texas Rangers last Thursday, where he recorded a 2-2 record and a 5.03 ERA in 39⅓ innings pitched in Triple-A Round Rock this season, Houser has been eager to prove his worth. The White Sox general manager Chris Getz expressed excitement about Houser’s signing and his potential contribution to the rotation.

“He opted out with the Rangers. He had other opportunities but chose us,” Getz said, highlighting Houser’s decision. “He pitched well in his first outing despite a rain delay, showcasing his ability to attack the zone effectively.”

Meanwhile, Gomez, 25, was struggling this season with an 8.10 ERA over three relief appearances, allowing five hits, two walks, and striking out two in 3⅓ innings.

As the White Sox continue to seek improvement in their performance, the matchup against the Mariners at 7:40 p.m. ET will be a testing ground for Houser as he faces off against one of Major League Baseball’s competitive teams.
