Alabama Football Recruiting: Five Star Freshman Qb Julian Sayin Entering Transfer Portal, Per Report

Five-star freshman quarterback Julian Sayin, who recently enrolled early at Alabama, has reportedly decided to enter the transfer portal, according to sources. Sayin, hailing from Carlsbad, California, was highly regarded as the third-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2024.

Sayin committed to Alabama in November 2022 when Nick Saban was the head coach and Bill O'Brien served as the offensive coordinator. However, since Saban’s retirement, several high-profile players have made similar decisions to explore other options.

Kalen DeBoer, Saban’s replacement and known for his expertise as a quarterback guru, faces a crowded quarterback room at Alabama. Bryce Young is expected to retain his starting role for the Crimson Tide in 2024, while talented prospects Jaxson Dart and Dylan Lonergan are also on the roster. Additionally, Alabama recently acquired four-star prospect Austin Mack from Washington, further increasing the competition.

When Sayin initially committed, he chose Alabama over offers from Ohio State and USC. He cited his desire to be coached by Saban and O’Brien as deciding factors. Although Saban is no longer coaching, rumors suggest that O’Brien may become Ohio State’s offensive coordinator in 2024, making the Buckeyes a potential destination for Sayin.

Sayin’s impressive performance as a senior, throwing 24 touchdowns and only one interception, earned him the title of Gatorade California Player of the Year. He also participated in the prestigious Under Armour All-American game where he showcased his skills as the top-ranked quarterback in his class.
