Alex Eala Climbs to No. 51 in WTA Rankings Ahead of Hong Kong Open
HONG KONG, China – Alex Eala, the rising Filipina tennis star, has reached a new career-high in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, climbing to No. 51 on Monday. This ranking marks a two-spot improvement from her previous rank of No. 53, as she prepares to compete in the Hong Kong Open, her final tournament of the year.
Eala will begin her doubles campaign on Monday alongside Chan Hao-Ching from Chinese Taipei. They will face the pairing of Kamilla Rakhimova from Russia and Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus in the Round of 16.
On Tuesday, Eala will launch her singles run against World No. 79 Katie Boulter of Great Britain. This tournament is critical for Eala, as a strong finish could propel her into the prestigious WTA Top 50.
The 20-year-old has had a challenging season but is ending on a high note. Earlier in the season, she faced tough matches during the Asian swing, which included exiting the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open qualifiers and a first-round retirement at the Japan Open.
However, she and Ukrainian partner Nadiia Kichenok had a strong showing in doubles at the Guangzhou Open, reaching the semifinals before losing in a closely contested match.
Eala’s rise in the WTA rankings highlights her hard work and dedication, and her success in Hong Kong could signal an even brighter future for Philippine tennis.
