Armenia Faces Hungary in Crucial World Cup Qualifier Showdown
Yerevan, Armenia – The Armenia national football team will host Hungary on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in a pivotal World Cup qualifying match at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.
Both teams are still vying for a place in the 2026 World Cup, making this match crucial. Armenia, currently ranked 104th in the world by FIFA, has lost its last two encounters against Hungary, including a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture last month.
Yegishe Melikyan, Armenia’s head coach since August, has secured just one win out of four World Cup qualifiers. After suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland, Armenia’s chances of qualifying are slim. However, a win against Hungary could potentially place them in playoff contention, depending on the outcome of the Ireland vs. Portugal match.
Despite only one victory in their last eight matches, Armenia’s lone triumph came during their last home game, where they managed a 2-1 victory against Ireland.
Hungary, on the other hand, sits in a better position, ranked 37th globally. They have gone unbeaten in their last three international matches, including two draws in World Cup qualifying against Ireland and Portugal.
A win against Armenia will guarantee Hungary a second-place finish in Group F and a playoff spot, particularly if Ireland loses to leaders Portugal.
Armenia will be without midfielder Ugochukwu Iwu and forward Vahan Bichakhchyan due to injuries, while Tigran Barseghyan is suspended after his red card in the previous match. Meanwhile, Hungary, aiming to return to the World Cup after 40 years, hopes to capitalize on their recent form.
Ultimately, this encounter holds significant implications for both sides, and with tensions high, fans can expect an exciting battle.
