BOSTON, MA — Aroldis Chapman, the 37-year-old closer for the Boston Red Sox, made headlines on Thursday with a strong statement against a potential return to the New York Yankees. Speaking during an interview, Chapman firmly declared, “No way. Not even dead,” when asked about being traded back to the Bronx.

Chapman, known for his 367 career saves, spent seven seasons with the Yankees, but his time there was marred by what he described as disrespect and challenges. He stated, “If I were told that I was being traded to New York, I’d pack my things and go home. I’ll retire right on the spot if that happens. I’m not crazy. Never again.” This strong reaction highlights the complicated feelings he has about his previous tenure with the team.

Despite his overall success with the Yankees, achieving a 2.95 ERA and 153 saves, his exit from the organization was not pleasant. In 2022, he was left off the ALDS roster, which left a sour taste in his mouth as he felt he had been disrespected.

Since leaving New York, Chapman has found success with the Red Sox, putting up impressive numbers in the 2025 season, including a 1.17 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 61 ⅓ innings. He expressed satisfaction with his current team, saying, “I got along well with all the players, never had a problem with anybody, even the manager. We’re friends and we talk.” Nevertheless, he made it clear that returning to the Yankees is not an option for him.
