Astros Defeat Tigers 8-5 to Start Road Trip

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Astros defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-5 on April 28, 2025, in the first game of a 10-game road trip for Detroit. This victory ended the Tigers’ four-game winning streak.
Jose Altuve played a key role in the Astros’ win by hitting a two-run homer in the sixth inning, contributing to Houston’s comeback after being down 3-0 early in the game. Altuve had two hits and three RBIs.
Christian Walker also made headlines for the Astros, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth that helped shift momentum in Houston’s favor.
Tigers hitters Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene provided some firepower, with each hitting home runs. However, Detroit’s defense struggled, allowing four unearned runs that ultimately decided the game.
The loss was a setback for the Tigers, who must regroup as they prepare for the second game of the series on April 29th. Starting pitcher Reese Olson will look to bounce back against rookie Ryan Gusto, who is also having a solid season.
Olson has recorded strong performances lately, including throwing 7 1/3 scoreless innings in his previous outing. Gusto, on the other hand, aims to continue improving in his transition from a reliever to a starter.
Game two is scheduled to take place at Daikin Park in Houston at 8:10 p.m. ET.
