Hamilton Ndlovu Luxury Car Auction

Three luxury Porsches and a Lamborghini Urus owned by entrepreneur Hamilton Ndlovu were auctioned off on August 28, 2024. This auction took place following the declaration of 19 unlawful PPE tenders valued at R172 million that Ndlovu received from the National Health Laboratory Service.

The state anticipates raising an estimated R7 million from the auction of the vehicles, which include a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera, a Lamborghini Urus 4.0 V8 (2019), a Porsche Panamera GTS (2019), and a Porsche Cayenne S (2020). Ndlovu had previously claimed that these vehicles were purchased for his family.

During the auction, Ndlovu’s 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet was sold for R1.8 million, where bidding started at R1.7 million and concluded within just a minute. This vehicle, with a retail price of approximately R2 million, has a mileage of 39,000 km.

In a more prolonged bidding process, Ndlovu’s Lamborghini Urus was sold for R4.34 million. Despite the auctioneer’s expectations of selling it for between R2 million and R3 million, the final bid exceeded those projections. The retail price of this vehicle is estimated to be around R7 million.

The auction was organized by Park Village Auctions in Johannesburg and was accessible virtually to buyers across South Africa. The additional Porsches owned by Ndlovu were also offered, reflecting a broader auction event featuring over 300 vehicles.

Hamilton Ndlovu’s vehicles were seized in 2021 as part of an ongoing investigation into the tender processes during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Special Investigating Unit and the South African Revenue Service carried out thorough investigations, which revealed that tender awards totaling R172 million were allegedly secured through improper procurement procedures.
