Martin Necas Colorado Avalanche Contract Extension

DENVER, Colorado — The Colorado Avalanche announced on October 30, 2025, that they have signed forward Martin Necas to an eight-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2033-34 season. The deal is worth $92 million, averaging $11.5 million annually, and includes $60 million in signing bonuses.

Necas, 26, is currently enjoying his first full season with the Avalanche. In just 11 games, he has scored seven goals and made six assists, totaling 13 points. His performance puts him among the team leaders in several categories, including second in goals and third in overall points.

Originally from Nove Mesto na Morave, Czechia, Necas began the season with an impressive eight-game point streak, scoring six goals and six assists. He was acquired by the Avalanche in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on January 24, 2025, and has registered a combined total of 41 points through 41 regular-season games since joining the team.

This contract extension secures a key player for the Avalanche, who are currently tied for first place in the Central Division with 16 points. They are thrilled about Necas’s recent contributions, which highlight his value to the team.

The Avalanche’s management had been negotiating with Necas’s representatives as he was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Discussions had been ongoing, with reports indicating that there was a gap in negotiations, but the team expressed confidence in reaching a deal.

Necas has made a mark since entering the NHL. He was drafted 12th overall by the Hurricanes in 2017 and has a career scoring line of 131 goals and 339 points across 452 NHL games. Additionally, he has represented Czechia in several international competitions, helping them win gold at the 2024 IIHF World Championships.

His eight-year extension comes as a major win for both the player and the team as they look to solidify their roster for years to come.
