Marvin Bagley Basketball Game Bench

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Marvin Bagley III will not start in Tuesday’s Play-In Game against the Golden State Warriors, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. This decision marks a shift for the 26-year-old big man, who had recently started in the regular-season finale against the Dallas Mavericks as a result of Zach Edey being sidelined with an ankle injury.

Bagley’s transition back to the bench comes after a string of inconsistent performances. He has logged a Did Not Play (DNP) in three of Memphis‘ last six games, indicating his reduced role within the team’s rotation. In the five games that he did play as part of the second unit, Bagley has struggled to make an impact, averaging a mere 0.8 points and 1.2 rebounds over just four minutes each game.

As injuries have plagued the team this season, Coach Taylor Jenkins has frequently adjusted lineups, seeking the most effective combinations on the court. “We’re always looking for the best fit to give us the best chance to win,” Jenkins said following a recent game. “With the playoffs on the line, every decision counts, and we need players to step up in critical moments.”

While the team has relied on various players throughout the season, Bagley’s limited contributions have raised questions about his readiness as they enter the playoffs. The focus will now shift to how the remaining players can step in and perform against a formidable Warriors team.

Fans and analysts alike are keen to see how this lineup change will affect the Grizzlies’ chances in the Play-In Game. As the NBA playoffs approach, every game is crucial, and Memphis is looking to capitalize on any advantage they can find.
