Baltimore Ravens Dominate Buffalo Bills with Stellar Rush Game
In a pivotal matchup under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football, the Baltimore Ravens delivered a commanding performance against the previously unbeaten Buffalo Bills. The Ravens’ 35-10 victory in Baltimore has left only three teams—Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks—undefeated in the NFL as the first month of the season concludes.
The Ravens took immediate control from the very first play, a remarkable 87-yard touchdown run by running back Derrick Henry. Henry’s momentous run set the tone for a game where Baltimore consistently demonstrated their prowess on the ground. The victory saw Baltimore improving to a 2-2 record, while Buffalo fell to 3-1.
Henry, a recent acquisition for Baltimore, was a standout performer, rushing for 199 yards on 24 carries. This was his second game this season surpassing the 100-yard mark, after achieving that milestone only four times during the previous season. Had Henry gained just one more yard, he would have set an NFL record for career games exceeding 200 rushing yards, breaking his tie with O.J. Simpson and Chris Johnson.
“Baltimore’s running game was practically unstoppable,” commented NBC Sports analyst Andrew Greif, highlighting Henry’s effectiveness along with strong contributions from quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Justice Hill. The team collectively averaged eight yards per carry, totaling 271 rushing yards.
The Bills, under the leadership of quarterback Josh Allen, struggled to find their rhythm. Allen, who ended the game with 180 passing yards and no touchdowns, faced a relentless Ravens defense that forced critical turnovers. A notable miscue occurred in the third quarter when Allen fumbled during a trick play, allowing Baltimore’s Kyle Van Noy to regain possession for the Ravens, leading to another score.
Speaking of Baltimore’s performance, Greif noted, “The Ravens executed big plays with perfect timing.” This included a nine-yard rushing touchdown by Lamar Jackson following Buffalo’s failed trick play, and a fortuitous touchdown recovery by fullback Patrick Ricard after Henry lost the ball near the goal line.
Lamar Jackson, a critical component of Baltimore’s dual-threat offense, further contributed with 156 passing yards completing 13 of 18 attempts with two touchdowns, alongside 54 rushing yards on six carries. Jackson’s efficiency in both passing and rushing created ongoing challenges for the Buffalo defense, which had previously shown vulnerabilities against ground attacks.
The Raven’s defensive resilience was equally emphasized with timely plays and strategic stops, especially during Buffalo’s attempt at a comeback. The Bills’ offensive struggles intensified in the face of Baltimore’s cohesive defense, culminating in several halted drives and a missed field goal attempt by kicker Tyler Bass.
Meanwhile, Kansas City maintained their perfect season start, staging a comeback to win against the Los Angeles Chargers 17-10, and the Minnesota Vikings held onto their unbeaten status by narrowly defeating Green Bay. The Seattle Seahawks were set to play against the Detroit Lions to potentially extend their winning streak and join the ranks of the undefeated.
