A spirited exchange between Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj and New Zealand opener Devon Conway provided an electrifying edge to the second day of the first Test between India and New Zealand. This match is being played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, known for its vibrant cricket atmosphere.

The incident transpired during the 15th over of New Zealand’s first innings. Conway dispatched a delivery from Siraj to the boundary, which was followed by a defensive block on the subsequent delivery. This instigated a verbal exchange from Siraj, who is known for his fiery on-field behavior. Simultaneously, spectators at the stadium heightened the tension with chants of “DSP” aimed at Siraj and “CSK” in favor of Conway.

Conway, who is part of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, responded to the sledging with a nonchalant wink and continued to punish the Indian bowlers. This competitive edge added spice to a Test match in which New Zealand had taken a firm lead. Conway compiled a score of 91 before being dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin, narrowly missing out on a century. His aggressive knock included a range of sweeps, reverse sweeps, and lofted shots.

On the flip side, the Indian team’s batting performance has been a narrative of woes. India, opting to bat first, was remarkably bowled out for a meager total of 46. This performance marks their third-lowest Test score in cricket history, underlining a challenging start for the hosts. New Zealand’s bowlers exhibited disciplined line and length, exploiting the overcast conditions effectively.

The host nation struggled against a disciplined Kiwi attack featuring Pacers such as Tim Southee and Ajaz Patel, failing to adapt to the swinging conditions adequately. This low total reignited memories of India’s infamous 36 all out against Australia at Adelaide in 2020.

New Zealand capitalized on the precarious Indian innings, with their openers easily surpassing India’s total without losing a wicket. Devon Conway and his fellow opener, Will Young, fortified the team’s position, with Conway notably reaching 65 off 77 balls at one point.

The intense rivalry and entertaining exchanges on the field, alongside the contrasting fortunes of the two teams, have made the game a talking point among cricket enthusiasts. As the Test match progresses, all eyes remain on whether India can recover against the resolute challenge posed by New Zealand.
